Monet regularly painted the Houses of Parliament in the early 1900s. In this painting, Big Ben looms through the mist like an apparition, a result of the famous London smog. Stone and water seem to merge, losing their substance, whilst the brushstrokes capture the atmosphere and density of the mist.
